Why the name METE0RA?

People ask about the name, and about the zero. Here are the stories behind it.

1. An album

Meteora is Linkin Park's second studio album, released in 2003. It was the soundtrack of a lot of teenage years, mine included. The band named it after the Meteora monasteries in Greece.

2. Monasteries in the sky

In central Greece, monks built monasteries on top of huge rock pillars, hundreds of metres above the plain. They seem to float in the air. The name comes from the Greek metéōros, "raised up, high in the air", the same word that gave us meteorology: the study of what happens in the sky.

3. A Sanskrit root

In Sanskrit, the root rā (रा) means "to give, to grant". So METE0RA is also a promise: to give the weather, freely, to everyone.

And the zero?

It's the signature of the ram0nes.com projects: LAB0RA, T3RRA, TELEPH0NE… and now METE0RA.

METE0RA is not affiliated with Linkin Park. It's just a fan saying thank you.
